Defence, Finance and Public Security Secretaries re-appointed

The Secretaries for Defence, Finance and Public Security have been re-appointed.

The President’s Office said that the Secretaries were re-appointed with effect from 10th May.

Accordingly, General (Rtd.) Kamal Gunaratne was re-appointed as the Defence Secretary, Major General (Rtd.) Jagath Alwis as the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Ministry and K.M. Mahinda Siriwardhane as the Finance Ministry Secretary.

The President’s Office said that they were appointed to the posts to maintain normalcy in accordance with the powers vested in the President. (Colombo Gazette)

Former President?s Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath and two others were released on bail today when they appeared before the Colombo Fort Magistrate?s Court. Senarath and two others had been remanded till today after surrendering to court over an ongoing case.?(Colombo Gazette)

Three killed in Veyangoda accident involving train and car

Three people were killed and one person sustained serious injuries following an accident involving a train and a car in the Veyangoda area today. The Police said that the train had crashed into the car when the car attempted to cross a railway crossing while the train was approaching. The accident had taken place at an unprotected railway crossing.
