Speaker requests President to summon Parliament immediately

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to summon Parliament immediately.

He made the request in light of the mob violence reported around the country.

Parliament was scheduled to originally meet on 17th May.

However, with violence breaking out across the country yesterday and today and also with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigning, the Speaker has requested the President to summon Parliament for an urgent session. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Proxies holding large sums of Rajapaksa criminals network monies and assets in Sri Lanka are still around and laying low…

    Legal system better get cracking down and recover monies to fix the crisis before they too go up in flames!

  2. Immediately appoint a new prime minister and repeal the 20th amendment so that by default we get back to the 19th amendment and start working on solutions for the crisis the country is facing…. Anymore games with us will end up worse that what has happened so far.

    This delay tactics game won’t work in the middle of a crisis. You bastards should be having back to back parliamentary sessions with no sleep to solve the crisis not postponing parliament in times like this!
