The authorities have been urged to arrest former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, accusing him of being involved in the mob attack at Galle Face and near Temple Trees.
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran said that Rajapaksa must be arrested and brought before the law along with all others who organized and brought the attackers to Colombo.
Several people sustained injuries as supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), armed with poles and other objects, attacked GotaGoGama in Galle Face.
The attack took place after the mob attended a meeting with the Prime Minister.
The mob destroyed several tents and other structures erected at Galle Face and also attacked some of the demonstrators.
The Police formed a human chain to prevent the protesters from entering GotaGoGama.
However, the mob pushed their way past the Police human chain and attacked GotaGoGama.
The Police fired tear gas and water cannons after the mob entered GotaGoGama in Galle Face.
Anti-Government protesters retaliated later by hunting down Mahinda Rajapaksa?s supporters.(Colombo Gazette)
