SLPP MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala and security officer found dead

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security officer were found dead in Nittambuwa today.

The MP had reportedly opened fire on anti-Government demonstrators and fled with his security officer.

He was later found dead together with his security officer.

It is still not clear how he died but some claim he committed suicide after being surrounded by a mob.

A 27-year-old youth died from gun-shot wounds after being shot at by the MP. (Colombo Gazette)
