Journalists assaulted near Temple Trees

A group of journalists have been assaulted near Temple Trees during the violence involving Government mobs and anti-Government mobs.
Three journalists attached to Daily Mirror who had been covering the incident near Temple Trees and at Galle Face were assaulted close to the Kollupitiya Police Station.
Two female journalists, including a trainee, and a photojournalist were assaulted by a group of young men and women.
Journalist and program host Ashanthi Warunasuriya, trainee journalist Amanda and photojournalist Waruna Wanniarachchi were assaulted when they were returning to office on foot.
They had covered the protest staged by Government supporters at Temple Trees as well as the attack launched by the mob on peaceful demonstrators near Temple Trees and at Galle Face.
The journalists were returning to office on foot from Galle Face when they were surrounded by a group of young men and women near Temple Trees, close to the Kollupitiya Police Station.
The three journalists were slapped on the faces and the head while the trainee was dragged away.
Warunasuriya later sought refuge inside the Kollupitiya Police Station while Wanniarachchi managed to escape and return to office.
The trainee, Amanda, was reported missing but she was later found down a lane where she had been left by the protesters and was brought back to office. (Colombo Gazette)
