Police fire tear gas and water cannons on Horu Go Gama

The Police fired tear gas and water cannons on “Horu Go Gama” which was established by protesting university students along Parliament Road.

Tear gas and water cannons were fired as the students attempted to pull down a reinforced barrier.

The water cannons? destroyed food and water stored in tents for the students.

Tear gas also fell near Diyatha Uyana at the Polduwa junction.

The Police had fired tear gas and water cannons targeting the students yesterday as well.

A large crowd of students marched from Nugegoda to Parliament Road yesterday and pulled down one of three Police barriers.

The students made several attempts to pull down the second barrier yesterday but failed.

The students later erected tents near the barrier and established Horu Go Gama.

They continued to protest and stayed overnight. (Colombo Gazette)

Government defends decision to ban locals from some hotels

The Government has defended the decision to keep locals out of specific hotels when Sri Lanka reopens its borders for tourism from Thursday (21). Over 50 hotels will be?out of bounds for locals when Sri Lanka reopens its borders for tourists from 21 January. Joe Biden took oaths as the 46th President of the United States today. Kamala Harris was sworn in as the first woman Vice President of the United States.
