Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Berlin on 3-day visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Berlin, Germany today (May 2, 2022) as part of his three-nation European tour. In Germany, he is scheduled to hold his first in-person meeting with the newly appointed Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

PM Modi and Olaf Scholz will co-chair the 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC).

PM Modi is also scheduled to visit Denmark on Tuesday to hold talks with leaders from Nordic countries, following which he will make a stopover in Paris on Wednesday to meet the newly re-elected French President Emmanuel Macron.

On arrival in Berlin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian diaspora in Germany and expressed that it was “wonderful connecting with them”.

He also shared several pictures with the Indian diaspora.

“It was early morning in Berlin yet several people from the Indian community came by. Was wonderful connecting with them. India is proud of the accomplishments of our diaspora,” PM tweeted. (Zee News)

Funds for free postal services for MPs and PC members increased

The funds allocated for free postal services offered to Members of Parliament (MP) and Provincial Council (PC) members have been increased. A gazette notice has been issued increasing the allowance allocated for Parliamentarians for free postal services to Rs 350,000 from Rs 175,000 a year. The funds allocated for Provincial Council members has been increased to Rs 48,000 from Rs 24,000 a year.

Senior DIG Ravi Wijegunawardena temporarily transferred

Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ravi Wijegunawardena, who was in charge of the?Southern Province, has been temporarily transferred to the Police Headquarters, the Police media unit said today. Wijegunawardena has been transferred to the Police Headquarters with effect from today on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police.
