Charitha Herath tells MR to step down

Ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP, Professor Charitha Herath has echoed calls for Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to step down.
Herath tweeted saying he endorsed the views expressed by former Minister Dullas Alahapperuma who had also called for Rajapaksa to give way for an interim-Government to be appointed.
“We should form a national Government collaboratively with all parties agreeing ASAP. I’m of the view that present government under?@PresRajapaksa need to stepdown as DA suggests,” Herath said.
He also proposed that a national, caretaker type small Government be appointed for a period of 6-8 months.
Herath also said that the ongoing discussions with the IMF must be expedited and the economic readjustment must be pushed through.?
He also said that the three draft proposals on the 21st Amendment to the Constitution (Drafts from the SJB & 40 independent MP were submitted and Government is pending) should be worked on to get an amalgamated version, if possible.
The MP said there must be a plan to pass the 21st Amendment within 3 months.
He also said that an election must be held after 8 months, given that the economic hardships will be managed to some extent by that time. (Colombo Gazette)
