Protests in several areas over fuel crisis

Protests were staged in several areas today over the ongoing fuel crisis and the increase in fuel prices.

Bus operators in some areas suspended operations owing to the fuel price hike and shortage of fuel.

Protesters also blocked traffic in some areas resulting in tense situations.

Buses were parked across the road in Galle obstructing vehicular movements.

Tyres were also set on fire in some parts of the country during the protests.

Protests were reported from Galle, Kandy, Katunayake, Ratnapura, Kegalle, and a number of others areas.

Train services were also disrupted in some parts of the country with protesters placing objects along the tracks. (Colombo Gazette)

Eight more coronavirus related deaths reported in Sri Lanka

Eight more coronavirus related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka, the Government Information Department said today. The Government said that the eight deaths has taken the death toll in Sri Lanka to 264. Of the eight victims, one is a 63-year-old female from Kolonnawa. She died while undergoing treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. The second victim is a 75-year-old male from Borella. He died at the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital. More arrivals found to be infected in Sri Lanka

More arrivals have been found to be infected in Sri Lanka, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19 said today.
