President appoints a new Cabinet

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed a new Cabinet.

The new Cabinet includes Mahinda Rajapaksa who retains his post as the Prime Minister.

Dinesh Gunawardena was sworn in as the Minister of Public Services, Provincial Councils and local government, Douglas Devananda – Minister of Fisheries, Ramesh Pathirana – Minister of Education and Plantation, Prasanna Ranatunga – Minister of Public Security and Tourism. Dilum Amunugama – Minister of Transport & Industries. Kanaka Herath – Minister of Highways, Vidura Wickramanayaka – Minister of Labour, Janaka Wakkumbura ? Agriculture and Irrigation, Shehan Semasinghe ? Trade and Samurdhi Development, Mohan Priyadarshana De Silva ? Water Supply, Wimalaweera Dissanayake ? Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation, Kanchana Wijesekera ? Power and Energy, Thenuka Vidanagamage -Sports and Youth Affairs, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa ? Media, Professor Channa Jayasumana ? Health, Naseer Ahamed ? Environment, and Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon ? Ports and Shipping.

An interim Cabinet was appointed earlier this month by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to manage the affairs of key Ministries.

The President had appointed Professor G.L. Peiris as the Foreign Minister, Ali Sabry as the Finance Minister, Johnston Fernando as the Minister of Highways and Dinesh Gunawardena as the Minister of Education in the interim cabinet. (Colombo Gazette)

Five killed in Alawwa road accident

Five people have been killed in a road accident in Alawwa, the Police said. The Police said that a vehicle had crashed into a tipper-truck along the Colombo-Kurunegala road in the Alawwa Police division. Twenty-three coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka

Another twenty-three coronavirus patients have been detected in Sri Lanka over a 24-hour period ending at 6 am today. The National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said that of the 23 new patients, 18 are arrivals from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Smoking ban to be expanded to all public places

The ban on smoking is to be expanded to all public places, the Chairman of the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) Dr. Samadhi Rajapaksa said. The Health Ministry quoted Dr. Samadhi Rajapaksa as saying that at the moment smoking is banned only in certain public places while in other areas it is restricted.
