Sri Lanka frees 56 Indian fishermen arrested for poaching

Sri Lanka has freed 56 Indian fishermen who were arrested for poaching.

The fishermen had been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy on separate occasions.

Happy to learn that a Court has ordered release of 56 Indian fishermen,” the Indian High Commission in Colombo said. 

The Indians had been arrested for entering Sri Lankan waters and catching fish illegally. (Colombo Gazette)
