FMM says three HR activists under threat

The Free Media Movement (FMM) says three human rights activists are facing threats after they attended the Geneva UN Human Rights Council sessions. According to FMM, some articles and news items appearing in the state media last week have placed the lives of human rights activists Pakiasothy Sarawanamuttu, Sunila Abeysekara and Nimalka Fernando at risk. Railway department suspects foul play

The Railway Department says it suspects sabotage led to the footboard of a train giving way in Veyangoda on Saturday which killed a youth. The General Manager of the Railway Department B.A.T Ariyaratne told reporters this afternoon that a three member committee has been appointed to investigate the incident.
