President Rajapaksa bestowed with the ?Sri Lankadheeshwara Padma Vibhushana? title

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was today bestowed with the ?Sri Lankadheeshwara Padma Vibhushana? title.

The title was conferred on the President by the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sanga Sabha.

Speaking at the event, the President recalled the role he played to defeat the LTTE as a soldier and as Defence Secretary.

He also noted that he was elected as President with the majority support of the Sinhalese community.

The President said that he has been given the responsibility of protecting the Sinhalese Buddhist community in Sri Lanka.

Rajapaksa assured he will fulfil that responsibility while ensuring people from other religions also live freely without fear. (Colombo Gazette)
