Opposition slams PM for passing the buck

The opposition today slammed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa for passing the buck and not responding to some questions raised in Parliament.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was asked to respond to a question on the New Fortress deal, during the Prime Minister’s Question and Answer session in Parliament today.

However, the Prime Minister had requested Power Minister Gamini Lokuge to give the response.

The move drew strong criticism from Samagi Jana Balaegaya (SJB) MP S. M. Marikkar and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Marikkar insisted that the Prime Minister must respond during the Prime Minister’s Question and Answer session.

Dissanayake also noted that the Prime Minister should respond during the Prime Minister’s Question and Answer session.

However, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that under the Standing Orders of Parliament the Prime Minister can request the subject Minister to respond. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka completes 100,000 PCR tests

Sri Lanka has completed 100,000 Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests so far, the Ministry of Health said today. Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that Sri Lanka, which had completed 98,634 tests by yesterday (Tuesday), had crossed the 100,000 mark today. Meanwhile, a new lab was declared open today where 500 tests can be carried out daily. The lab has been established in Mulleriyawa. (Colombo Gazette)

Statement recorded from Aluthgamage on match-fixing claims

A statement was recorded from former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage today over match-fixing allegations.
