Mahela raises eyebrows over outcome of LPL player draft

Former Sri Lanka Cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena has raised his eyebrows over the outcome of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) player draft.

Jayawardena tweeted saying the picks and none picks were interesting.

“Difficult for a country to progress when you take one step forward and 5 steps backwards,” he said.

Jayawardena said that the Sri Lanka Cricket board should not forget that the LPL is a domestic tournament to develop genuine talent.

Chris Gayle, Imran Tahir, Faf du Plessis, Tabraiz Shamsi, Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik are some of the international players drafted in the Lanka Premier League player drafts, held last night (Tuesday).

The 2021 edition, which has had to be postponed twice due to Covid-19 disruptions and avoiding a clash with other T20 leagues this year, is set to get underway from December 5, with the final scheduled on December 23.
