Top lawyer suspended from practising for three years

A restraining order was issued by the Supreme Court today preventing Attorney-at-Law Nagananda Kodituwakku from practising as a lawyer for three years. A case had earlier been filed against Kodituwakku over a statement he had made in 2015 before then Court of Appeal President Vijith Malalgoda. Kodituwakku was accused of making a statement which caused inconvenience to Justice Vijith Malalgoda during the case in 2015. Kodituwakku was found to have violated Article 42(2) of the Judicature Act.

Controversial Southern PC member to resign

Controversial Southern Provincial Council member Krishantha Pushpakumara alias ?Raththaran? has decided to resign from all political activities. Pushpakumara had been accused of being involved in the sexual abuse of a school girl. The Provincial Council member was arrested over the charge and granted bail. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member said that he had decided to step down from politics to ensure investigations into the allegations are free and fair. (Colombo Gazette)

IUSF Convenor Maheel Bandara granted bail

Convenor of the Inter-University Students? Federation (IUSF) Maheel Bandara was granted bail today after being in remand over the recent protest at Parliament Road. He was arrested last week for unruly behaviour during the protest which was dispersed by the Police.
