Two people, including the Eastern Province leader of the Jammiyathul Millathu Ibrahim? (JMI), have been arrested. The JMI was banned in Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday attacks. The Police said that a student of the Oluvil campus was among the two people arrested by the Police.

Catholic Church compensates Easter Sunday victims

The Catholic Church today compensated victims of the Easter Sunday attacks. The Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith handed over compensation to the families of the victims. Three churches, including two Catholic churches and three hotels were attacked by suicide bombers on Easter Sunday this year. The Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, compensated the people who were injured or lost their family members during the attacks on the two Catholic churches.

EU offers to help Sri Lanka counter violent extremism

The European Union (EU) has offered to help Sri Lanka counter violent extremism. During a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana in Thailand, EU High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini stressed the EU’s solidarity with Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday attacks. She underlined the EU’s readiness to support Sri Lanka in the face of this challenge to help prevent and counter violent extremism and support improvements in coordinating the country’s counterterrorism
