Security has been beefed up at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after an email was received warning of attacks.

The email had been received from an unknown source.

Sources at the Criminal Investigations Department said that it was believed one of the BIA email accounts was hacked to send the warning.

BIA officials said that operations at the airport are ongoing as usual while security has been tightened.

The unverified threat comes as leading international airlines prepare to resume flights to BIA in November.

Air France is to commence direct flights to Colombo from 01st of November 2021 while Swiss International Airlines is also scheduled to launch flights to Colombo in November.

Investigations into the threat have been launched. (Colombo Gazette)
