Ishini Wickremesinghe resigns as National Zoo DG

The Director General of the National Zoological Gardens, Ishini Wickremesinghe, has resigned from her post.

State Minister of Wildlife Wimalaweera Dissanayake said that Wickremesinghe resigned citing personal reasons.

The move comes after a decision was taken to return several elephants held in State protection, back to their previous owners.

Ishini Wickremesinghe is the daughter of Shan Wickramasinghe, the brother of former Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Returning of elephants to previous owners are irrational and short sighted. Decision makers influenced by powerful lobbies.
All done in the interest of law breakers and not considering
    animal welfare.
