Minor earth tremor reported in Lunugamvehera

A minor earth tremor has been reported in the Lunugamvehera area today.

The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) said the tremor was recorded as 2.4 on the Richter scale.

The tremor had been reported in the Lunugamvehera area at around?10.38 am this morning.

Last month (August) a minor earth tremor was recorded in the Hambantota area.

The tremor was recorded at 2.0 in the Richter scale in Hambantota and 2.5 in the Yala Block 01.

In June a minor earth tremor was reported near the Victoria Dam.

The tremor was recorded at around 1.9 on the Richter scale.

Minor tremors were also felt in parts of Kandy in August, September and November last year. (Colombo Gazette)

Foreigners stranded after Badulla bound train stops midway

Foreigners were stranded after a passenger train heading to Badulla from Colombo stopped midway owing to ongoing trade union action. The ‘Podi Menike’ train was heading to Badulla from Fort when it stopped at Kotagala owing to the protest by Station Masters. The Police were later deployed to provide security to the train until it reached the Kotagala railway station. From Kotagala the passengers had to travel to Baddulla by bus. Susil?s SLPP membership at stake?

SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam told Daily Mirror that there are calls from within the party to take disciplinary action against Premajayantha.
