Vedda chief’s wife dies after contracting Covid

The wife of Vedda chief Uru Warige Wannila Aththo passed away after contracting the coronavirus.

She and several others in the community in Dambana had been found to be infected with the coronavirus.

Vedda chief Uru Warige Wannila Aththo had said that his wife and a number of others in the area had been admitted to hospital.

His wife passed away while receiving treatment in hospital.

Rapid antigen tests conducted among the Vedda community and others in Dambana found that 44 people were infected.

Over 100 people in the area were tested for the coronavirus. (Colombo Gazette)

Covid death toll in Sri Lanka crosses the 10,000 mark

The coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka crossed the 10,000 mark today. The Ministry of Health said that another 189 deaths linked to the virus were confirmed today. As a result the total number of deaths from the pandemic rose to 10,040 in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
