Sports Ministry secretary to run cricket board operations till polls

The?Sports Ministry secretary is to run the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board operations till the elections to the board takes place. Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha appointed Sports Ministry secretary H.T. Kamal Padmasiri to run the operations of the cricket board as the board elections had been postponed on a court order. The elections to the Sri Lanka cricket board was scheduled to take place today but was postponed after the Court of Appeal issued a stay order till June 14. (Colombo Gazette)

Suspect in Lasantha’s murder submits confidential statement to court

A former police officer, who is in remand custody for his alleged involvement in the murder of The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge had made a confidential statement to the court today about the nine-year old crime, the Colombo Page reported. Three accused sentenced to death over 2003 murder

Three people accused of murdering a man in 2003 have been sentenced to death. The death sentence was issued by Galle High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne today. The three, including two from the same family, were accused of committing the murder in January 2003. The death sentence is however not implemented in Sri Lanka and so the convicts will serve life in prison. (Colombo Gazette)?
