Only 146 MPs vaccinated against COVID

Only 146 of the 225 Parliamentarians have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as of 12 August, a Right to Information application (RTI) revealed.

The vaccination of MPs commenced on 16th of February. However, until now only 146 MPs have been vaccinated, according to the RTI reply from Parliament.

Accordingly, 122 MPs have got two doses of India?s AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine at the Army Hospital, Narahenpita, while 24 MPs got two doses of Russia?s Sputnik V at the Health Center in Parliament.

?We don?t have any details of MPs who have not yet been vaccinated for COVID-19 and the reason? Tikiri K. Jayathilake, Information Officer and Assistant Secretary-General of Parliament said.

Parliament also does not have the details of the MPs who got the Moderna, Pizer, Sihorparm and AstraZeneca vaccines produced in Japan, he added.

Five MPs have tested positive for Covid in last 14 days. Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera, Hambantota District SJB MP Dilip Wedarachchi, Matale District SLPP MP Rohana Dissanayake and Badulla District SLPP MP Janaka ThissaKutti Aracchi had tested positive. Moves to vaccinate 12-18 year olds in Gampaha
