Provincial borders open only for State sector employees

Provincial borders have been opened today only for State sector employees to report to work.

The Government had issued a circular recalling all State sector employees to work from today (Monday).

Accordingly, the Police said that Government servants will be permitted to cross provincial borders.

Police Spokesman, Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that road blocks will continue to remain at provincial borders.

However, he said that all area Police have been informed to allow Government servants travelling to work to allow them to cross provincial borders.

He said the Police will inspect people crossing provincial borders to confirm they are Government servants travelling to work.

DIG Ajith Rohana also said that State sector employees travelling in public transport must follow the health guidelines. This includes wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.

The Police Spokesman said that apart from State sector employees even essential services can operate between provinces. (Colombo Gazette)
