Probe continues into alleged rape of teen at Rishad’s house

An investigation is continuing into the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl who had later died of burn injuries at the residence of opposition parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.

Police Spokesman Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana said the teenager who was employed as a domestic worker had died four days ago at the Colombo National Hospital.

The postmortem report has revealed that there are signs of chronic vaginal penetration, he said.

SDIG Ajith Rohana added that the postmortem report will be produced in court today.

Meanwhile, the in-laws of parliamentarian Bathiudeen were summoned before the Borella Police yesterday to record statements with regard to the death of the girl.

SDIG Ajith Rohana said the man who had escorted the woman from Dayagama to the MP’s house for employment has been summoned before the Borella Police to record a statement today.
