Seventy-three infected people detected in Wellawatte

Seventy-three (73) Covid cases have been detected in Wellawatte in the 24-hour period ending at 06 am today.

Health officials said the infections were among the 177 cases detected within the Colombo Municipal Council -limits during this period.

Twenty Covid cases each were found in the Narahenpita and Borella areas, while 14 cases were detected in Mattakkuliya. 

Eight Covid infected people were reported in the Cinnamon Gardens area, while seven each were found in the Bloemendhal and Dematagoda areas.

Five cases each have been detected in Grandpass and Hulftsdorp, four each in Maradana, Slave Island, and Colpetty, three in Fort, two in Bambalapitiya, and one in Pettah.

From the other areas in the Colombo District, 96 Covid cases were reported from Avissawella, 47 in Padukka, and 33 in Piliyandala.

Health officials said 18 cases were reported from Homagama, 15 each from Kosgama, Mount Lavinia, and Wellampitiya, 14 from Hanwella, and 13 from Kotahena. 

Less than 10 Covid infections each were reported from the remaining areas in the Colombo District. 

A total of 516 Covid cases were reported in the Colombo District during the 24-hour period ending at 06 am today. 

Sri Lanka has reported 230, 692 Covid cases since the initial outbreak in March 2020. Among them, 194,145 people have recovered, while 34,232 people are still under medical care.

Fifty-nine more deaths were reported yesterday, taking the total death toll due to the coronavirus in Sri Lanka to 2,374.

As of this morning, 2, 380 354 people have received the 1st dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 702,551 people have received the 2nd jab. (Colombo Gazette)
