Two foreigners are among the latest Covid cases detected in Sri Lanka, officials said today.
Officials said that 2,354 people were detected with the virus in Sri Lanka over a 24-hour period ending at 6am today.
Of them, there are 12 Sri Lankans who returned from overseas and two foreigners.
The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 said that of the 2,354 people detected with the virus in Sri Lanka, 528 people were detected in Colombo.
Officials also said that 561 people were detected with the virus in Gampaha, 313 in Kalutara, 111 in Jaffna and 105 in Kegalle.
New cases were detected in several other districts as well, including in Kandy, Ratnapura, Matara and Kurunegala.
Sri Lanka has recorded a spike in Covid cases since the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April.
The third wave of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka has been blamed over the failure by the public to adhere to the health guidelines during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
A number of areas in Sri Lanka have now been isolated to prevent the spread of the virus.(Colombo Gazette)
