Fishing allowed to recommence in the Negombo lagoon

Fishing has been allowed to recommence in the Negombo lagoon, the Fisheries Ministry said today.

The Department of Fisheries had suspended fishing in the lagoon three weeks ago.

However, State Minister of Fisheries Kanchana Wijesekera said that fishing in the lagoon has been permitted from today.

Fishing in the lagoon and along the coast in Negombo had been banned following the fire on the MV X-Press Pearl.

Wijesekera noted that fishing will not be permitted in some areas until a scan, clearing and cleanup is competed. (Colombo Gazette)

Two killed as train crashes into car in Enderamulla

Two people were killed when a train crashed into a car at the Enderamulla railway crossing, Saturday. The train, which was heading to Colombo from Badulla, crashed into the car when the vehicle attempted to cross the tracks despite the warning signals being on.
