More MPs test positive for Covid

More Parliamentarians have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Sergeant-at-Arms of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Narendra Fernando told Colombo Gazette that Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Nalin Bandara and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.
He said they are the latest to test positive after Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa and his wife were initially found to have contracted the virus.
So far two Opposition Parliamentarians have contracted the virus. Ten MPs from the Opposition who were identified as close associates of MP Premadasa have been instructed to isolate, Fernando said.
The Sergeant-at-Arms of the Parliament further said two employees from the Opposition and one Parliament staff member who had carried documents of the Opposition MPs have also been isolated as a precautionary measure.
He added that all members of Parliament have been urged to take necessary precautions as they had attended Parliament proceedings along with the infected MPs.
Narendra Fernando said the isolated MPs and staff members will undergo PCR tests today.
Meanwhile, Samagi Jana Balawegaya General Secretary MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara told Colombo Gazette that all members of the party have been instructed to self-isolate.?
Stating that all party members had engaged in a discussion on Tuesday and on Friday with the infected Parliamentarians, he said they had also attended Parliament sittings together.
MP Ranjith Maddumma Bandara further said that, however, MPs Kabir Hashim and Lakshman Kiriella have tested negative after being subjected to PCR tests. (Colombo Gazette)
