Americans advised against visiting Sri Lanka

Americans have been advised against visiting Sri Lanka because of the coronavirus situation.

The US State Department today issued an updated travel advise on Sri Lanka telling Americans not to travel to Sri Lanka.

“Do not travel to Sri Lanka due to COVID-19. Exercise increased caution in Sri Lanka due to terrorism,” the updated travel advise said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Sri Lanka due to COVID-19, indicating a very high level of COVID-19 in the country.

The US State Department also maintained that terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, Government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas.

The US Government said it has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in remote areas. (Colombo Gazette)
