Several infected people detected in Moratuwa, Pitakotte and Boralesgamuwa

Several people infected with the coronavirus have been detected in various parts of the Colombo District, including in Moratuwa, Pitakotte and Boralesgamuwa.

Officials said that 529 people were detected with the coronavirus in the Colombo District over a 24-hour period ending at 6am today.

Of them, 60 infected people are from Piliyandala, 54 from Moratuwa, 35 from Pitakotte, 35 from Mulleriyawa and 47 from Boralesgamuwa.

A record 1923 people were found to be infected with the virus in Sri Lanka yesterday (Monday), the highest number detected in a day in Sri Lanka.

Among them are nine Sri Lankans who returned from overseas and one foreigner.

People infected with the coronavirus were detected from around the country, including 232 from the Gampaha District, 264 from the Kalutara District, 154 from the Galle District and 122 from the Kurunegala District.

Multiple areas have already been placed under isolation following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year after the coronavirus began to spread in the country once again.

The New Year cluster emerged after the public failed to follow the coronavirus health guidelines during the festive season.

A UK strain of the coronavirus was also found to spreading in Sri Lanka, affecting even youth and children. (Colombo Gazette)
