Religious congregational activities temporarily banned

All religious congregational activities have been temporarily banned.

Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawawardene said all religious congregational activities will be prohibited until further notice.

He further said the maximum number of people permitted to gather at any place of worship is 25.

Dr. Gunawardena added that the decision has been taken due to the existing coronavirus situation in the country.

Earlier today, all Muslim religious prayers conducted at mosques were also temporarily suspended.

A new set of health guidelines in view of COVID-19 were issued by State Minister Dr. Sudharshini Fernandopulle on Friday (23).

All public gatherings, parties, and events were prohibited under the newly issued guidelines.

Health authorities are imposing more restrictions at present after detecting the highly transmissible variant of the Coronavirus found in the United Kingdom from several areas in Sri Lanka.

A significant spike in Covid cases has also been noted after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, with over 1000 cases being detected over the last two days.?(Colombo Gazette)

Over 20,000 policemen deployed to enforce travel ban

Over 20,000 policemen have been deployed to enforce a travel ban in the country. Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the travel ban will be strictly enforced.
