Schools in most parts of the country were closed today as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Governor of the Sabragamuwa Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said all schools that fall under the purview of the Sabragamuwa Provincial Council will be closed during this period.
He said the decision has been taken due to a significant increase in the spread of the coronavirus in the Kegalle District, following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the North Central Province also announced today that 13 schools within the Anuradhapura Educational Zone will be closed until Friday.
The Governor of the Eastern Province also announced that all schools in the Kanthale Education Zone in the Trincomalee District will also be closed during this period.
The Governor further said that all schools in the Maha-Oya and Ampara Education Zones in the Ampara District will also be closed until Friday.
Schools in the Kegalle and Anuradhapura Districts are the latest to be closed due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Education Minister G.L. Peiris announced yesterday that all schools, preschools and Pirivens in the Western and North Western Provinces will be closed until Friday (30).
Thereafter it was announced that fifteen schools in the Siyambalanduwa, Monaragala, and Badulla education zones in the Monaragala District will also closed until Friday.
The Bishop of Colombo then announced that all Anglican schools in the Western and North Western Provinces will be closed until Friday.
All Catholic schools in the Western and North Western Provinces are to also remain closed during this period. (Colombo Gazette)
