Two ex-military officers appointed as Ambassador and Secretary

Two former military officers have been appointed as an Ambassador and a Secretary to a Ministry.

Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias has been appointed as the new Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Italy while Major General Jagath Alwis has been appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security.

Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said that the secretaries to five Government Ministries received the approval of the Committee on High Posts in Parliament.

Approval was granted by the Committee on High Posts Chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

Accordingly, the appointment of Anura Dissanayake as the Secretary to the Ministry of Irrigation, Sirinimal Perera as the Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, Major General Jagath Alwis as the Secretary to the Public Security Ministry, were approved by the Committee on High Posts.

Committee approval was also granted to Mrs. Bhadrani Jayawardena as the Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and R. A. K. K Ranawaka as the Secretary to the Ministry of Lands and Land Development.

Approval has also been granted to appoint Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias as the new Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Italy, Dhammika Dasanayake said in a statement today.

Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena, Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Udaya Gammanpila, (Dr.) Ramesh Pathirana, Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle and Members of Parliament John Seneviratne, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Rishad Bathiudeen, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and D. Siddarthan attended the Committee on High Posts Chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. (Colombo Gazette)
