The Colombo District has recorded the highest number of Covid patients detected in Sri Lanka during the 24-hour period ending at 06am today.
The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said that 226 individuals infected with the coronavirus were detected from the Colombo District during this period.
According to NOCPC, 23 infected people were detected in Moratuwa, 19 in Piliyandala, 16 in Avissawella, 15 each in Colombo and Kesbewa, 12 in Wellawatte, and 11 in Borelesgamuwa in the Colombo District.
Meanwhile, a few people were also found to be infected in Colpetty, Narahenpita, Borella, Athurugiriya, Battaramulla, Dehiwela, Etulkotte, Homagama, Kaduwela, Kollonawa, Kotte, Maharagama, Mount Lavinia, Nugegoda, Pannipitiya, Rajagiriya, and Ratmalana.
Officials said that In the Gampaha District 82 people were found to be infected with the coronavirus during the 24-hour period ending at 06am today. Of them 10 people were found to be infected in Wattala, and nine each in Mattumagala and Kirilawa.
NOCPC said 71 Covid cases were detected in the Kurunegala District of which 44 infected people being found in the Pannala area alone.
The Matale District reported 61 Covid infections, while the Kalutara District reported 52, Kandy District 47, Monaragala District 45, Galle District 44, and Badulla District 30 cases.
Covid cases were also reported from the Mannar, Matara, Kegalle, Ampara, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Vavuniya, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Puttalam, Jaffna, Pollonaruwa, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, and Kilinochchi.
The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 said ten Sri Lankans who had returned from overseas were also among the people found to be infected during the 24-hours ending at 06am today
The NOCPC further said that a total of 793 people were detected with the virus in the country during this period. (Colombo Gazette)
