A special circular enabling heads of all Government institutions to decide on the workforce will be issued tomorrow (27), the Government announced.
The Ministry of Public Administration said the special circular will be issued due to the prevalent Covid situation in the country.
The Ministry said heads of all Government institutions will be vested with powers to decide on the number of employees to attend work from tomorrow.
A significant spike in Covid cases was reported following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Health authorities said earlier that several coronavirus sub-clusters have been reported from across the country since the New Year.
The Health Ministry thereafter issued a new set of health guidelines in a bid to curtail the spread of the virus.
As per the guidelines, all Government institutions have been requested to operate with a 50% workforce.
Public gatherings and parties have also been banned as a precautionary measure.
All State and private functions have been banned for two weeks using the quarantine law.
Health authorities have urged the public to strictly adhere to the guidelines, especially by wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.
Meanwhile, the Police have highlighted that a large number of people disregarding the quarantine laws have been found as passengers of public transportations. (Colombo Gazette)
