At least 100 arrested after raid on Dehiwala party

At least 100 people were arrested after a raid on a party in Dehiwala, the Police said today. The Police said that the raid was carried out on the party at a hotel in Dehiwala which was organised using Facebook. The Police had found narcotics being distributed at the party. Among those arrested were 17 women aged between 18-48 years.

Navy confiscates 200kg of heroin

The Sri Lanka Navy has seized 200 kg of heroin off the coast of Galle. Navy Media Spokesman Lieutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara said that five suspects had been arrested along with the haul of narcotics. The suspects had been transporting the illegal substance in a multi-day trawler, which was brought to the Colombo harbor escorted by the Navy. Additionally, the Navy Spokesman revealed that the Navy had confiscated a total of 739 kg of heroin this year in similar raids.

SLFP asserts cannot accept policies of UNP

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today asserted that it will not accept the policies of the United National Party (UNP). SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera said that the SLFP took a firm decision to withdraw its support for the UNP as its policies could not be accepted. A group of SLFP members, including former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, signed an agreement with the UNP this week after refusing to back SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential election.
