Twenty-four people found to be infected in Boralesgamuwa

Twenty-four people have been found to be infected with the coronavirus in Boralesgamuwa.

The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said they were the highest number of infected individuals found from among 56 people detected with the virus in Colombo.

The infected people were detected in the 24-hour period ending at 06 am today.

The NOCPC said 14 infected people were also detected from the Gampaha District, four from Kalutara, 31 from Ratnapura, five from Vavuniya, six from Mullaitivu, two from Batticaloa, six from Jaffna, nine from Anuradhapura, and four from Mannar during this period.

The Centre said 159 Covid infected were detected in Sri Lanka during this period after health authorities had conducted 5,798 PCR tests across the country yesterday.

From among the group, 32 were Sri Lankans who had returned from overseas, while the remaining 137 were detections made within the country.

Sri Lanka has reported a total of 93,594 coronavirus cases to date, with 90,562 recoveries, and 2,446 still under medical care.

The NOCPC said 9,834 people are currently undergoing the mandatory quarantine at 100 Government operated quarantine centres across the country.

The death toll due to COVID-19 in Sri Lanka increased to 586, after five more deaths were reported yesterday.

The victims have been identified as residents of Colombo-10, Battaramulla, and Jaffna. (Colombo Gazette)
