The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has reissued summons on Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ashoka Abeysinghe over claims he made that the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks were staged.
Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said six Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs had filed a complaint with the CID to investigate the statement made by MP Abeysinghe during a public meeting on Saturday (06).
In the complaint, the SLPP MPs have charged that the statement made by the SJB Kurunegala District MP was false and caused racial tensions.
MP Ashoka Abeysinghe is reported to have claimed that the Easter Sunday attacks were staged by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and SLPP National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa, while it had been funded by the Chairman of the Avant Garde floating armory Nissanka Senadhipathi.
DIG Rohana said the CID had issued summons on MP Abeysinghe to appear before the Department today, based on the complaint filed by the six SLPP MPs.
However, SJB MP Abeysinghe had failed to appear before the CID today to record a statement.
The Police Spokesman said Avant Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi had also filed a complaint with the CID today, calling for an investigation into MP Ashoka Abeysinghe’s statement.
In his complaint, Sanadhipathi has claimed that the statement by MP Abeysinghe is wrongful, and urged the CID to investigate the matter.
DIG Ajith Rohana said, as a result, the CID re-issued summons on MP Abeysinghe today to appear before the Department tomorrow. (Colombo Gazette)
