Schools in the Western Province (WP) will resume on Monday only for Grade 5, Ordinary Level (O/L) and Advanced Level (A/L) classes.
All Government and Government approved schools had closed on 25th February under the first stage for the first term for the year 2021.
Education Minister, Professor G.L Peiris said that schools around the country will reopen on Monday for all grades.
However, he said that Health Ministry approval has been sought to reopen schools in the Western Province.
“We are prepared to commence classes. But the ultimate decision has to be made by officials of the Ministry of Health,” he said.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena said that approval has not been granted to resume classes for all grades in the Western Province.
He said that approval has only been granted for Grade 5, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level classes to resume in the Western Province.
Meanwhile, Professor G.L Peiris said that the results of the Ordinary Level examinations held recently, will be released in June.
The academic terms of schools are being conducted in stages due to the coronavirus pandemic and isolation status imposed in various areas as a result.
Schools have been operating in stages since the second outbreak in October 2020. (Colombo Gazette)
