A total of 31 coronavirus infected bodies have been buried in Batticaloa so far.
Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said the remains of seven Covid victims were buried in the Oddamawadi area in Batticaloa today.
The bodies were buried at the site specifically allocated for the burial of Covid victims.
He further said that today’s burials increase the number of remains of Covid victims buried thus far in Batticaloa to 31.
Sri Lanka conducted its first burial of the remains of COVID-19 victims in Oddamawadi, Batticaloa on Friday (05).
A total of seven remains of Covid victims were buried last week.
The Government had earlier approved the burial of the remains of COVID-19 victims at two locations in the East.
The Eastern Province Health Director said permission had been granted to utilize the Soodupaththinachenai area in Oddamavadi, Batticaloa and Irakkamam area in the Ampara district as burial grounds.
The two newly proposed areas increase the number of approved burial grounds for COVID-19 victims in Sri Lanka to three.
Last week, the Cabinet announced that Iranaitivu in the Gulf of Mannar was the first location to be approved to conduct burials. (Colombo Gazette)
