More Sri Lankans who returned to the island test positive

More Sri Lankans who returned from overseas have tested positive for COVID-19.

The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said 22 Sri Lankans who had returned to the island had tested positive.

They were among 359 infected individuals detected in Sri Lanka in the 24-hours ending at 06am today.

From the group, 337 infected individuals were reported from various parts of the country.

The highest number of infected people were reported from the Gampaha District with 77, followed by 74 from Colombo, 34 from Galle, and the remaining 152 from the other districts.

Sri Lanka has reported a total of 85,694 confirmed COVID-19 cases, while it has reported 82,058 recoveries with 3,134 people still under medical care.

A total of 9,899 persons are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine at 100 quarantine centres across the country.

Meanwhile, the death toll due to the coronavirus in Sri Lanka surpassed the 500 mark yesterday, after five more deaths were reported.

The deaths were reported from the Kannaththota, Matara, Pallekele, Nugegoda, and Barawardena-Oya areas. (Colombo Gazette)
