According to the Government Information Department, five new deaths linked to the virus were confirmed today.
Of the five deaths four are women from various parts of the country.
The five deaths took the death toll from the virus in Sri Lanka to 489.
Among the deaths reported yesterday, a 53-year-old woman from Ussapitiya had died on 22 February after being transferred from the Mawanella Hospital to the General Hospital in Kandy. The cause of death was reported as Covid pneumonia.
A 78-year-old woman from Giriulla who was detected with COVID-19 while being treated at a private hospital in Colombo, had died after being transferred to the Kothalawela Defence Hospital yesterday. The cause of death has been identified as Covid pneumonia and the dysfunction of multiple organs.
A 72-year-old male from Kolonnawa had died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Colombo on 2nd March. The cause of death has been reported as Covid pneumonia, heart disease and acute kidney damage.
A 62-year-old woman from Mattakkuliya, who was detected with COVID-19 while being treated at the General Hospital in Colombo had died after being transferred to the Base Hospital Homagama on 1st march. The cause of death has been identified as Covid infection and respiratory system failure.
A 70-year-old woman from Boralesgamuwa who was found to have been infected while being treated at the Apeksha Cancer Hospital in Maharagama, has died after being transferred to the Base Hospital Mulleriyawa on 3rd March. The cause of death has been reported as blood poisoning shock, Covid pneumonia, acute kidney damages, and cancer. (Colombo Gazette)
