Police to crackdown on unauthorised Valentine’s Day parties

The Police are to crackdown on unauthorised Valentine’s Day parties next week.

Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana said that several unauthorised parties have been promoted on social media.

He said that Valentine’s Day events cannot be held without the approval of the local area health authorities.

When taking into consideration Covid infected persons in Sri Lanka, it has been noted that many have been infected after attending public gatherings, such as parties and weddings.

DIG Rohana said therefore, special attention has been focused on public events to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.

He further said legal action will be taken against people and institutions organizing or hosting public celebrations for Valentine’s day.

The Police Spokesman appealed to hotels and guesthouse owners to refrain from providing their premises for such events.

He warned that in the event, hotels and guesthouses are found to have hosted celebrations, stern action will be taken under the Quarantine Law, while steps will be taken to seal the places hosting such celebrations.

DIG Ajith Rohana said that Police and Intelligence Unit personnel have been deployed to conduct raids on parties organized for the 13th and 14th of February. (Colombo Gazette)
