First health worker dies in Sri Lanka from Covid

Sri Lanka today lost its first health worker as a result of the coronavirus.

The deceased was identified by the Health Ministry as 32-year-old Dr. Gayan Danthanarayana, attached to the Colombo North Teaching hospital in Ragama.

The doctor is reported to have died while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Karapitiya hospital for COVID-19.

The identity of Covid victims are usually not revealed but the Health Ministry revealed the name of the doctor with the consent of his family.

His remains were cremated today following religious observances.

Sri Lanka had just recently commenced a nationwide vaccination process of frontline health workers.?(Colombo Gazette)
