Wennawatta Civil Defence Force camp under lockdown

Coronavirus patients have been detected from the Civil Defence Force (CDF) Camps in Welampitiya and Katunayake.

Public Health Inspectors Association Secretary M. Balasuriya told Colombo Gazette that as a result, the Wennawatta CDF Camp in Kotikawatte, Wellampitiya has been closed for two weeks from today.

An officer attached to the Camp is reported to have shown symptoms of the coronavirus and had been subjected to a PCR test.

The test results had confirmed yesterday that the officer had contracted the coronavirus.

The officer who is a resident of Nittambuwa is said to have reported to work from home till the 7th of November and was later placed in isolation after showing symptoms of the virus.

Following the detection, 68 other officers at the CDF Camp in Wellampitiya were subjected to PCR tests today.

Balsuriya said that one officer attached to the Civil Defence Force Camp in Katunayake had also tested positive for COVID-19 today.

Twenty-eight officers at the camp were subjected to PCR tests following the detection.

Balasuriya said further measures will be taken after receiving the results of the PCR tests. (Colombo Gazette)
