A quarantine curfew will be imposed in the entire Western Province from tomorrow (29).
The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVD-19 (NOCPC) said that the curfew will be implemented from midnight tomorrow (29) till 05.00am on Monday (02).
Head of the NOCPC Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that the curfew has been imposed in view of the upcoming long weekend and in a bid to contain the latest coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Those residing in the Western Province have been requested to refrain from leaving the province during the long weekend. This could lead to a risk for the coronavirus to spread to the people in other areas.
Therefore, people in the Western Province have been requested to remain in their houses as the curfew has been imposed temporarily, the Army Commander said.
The public in the Western Province have also been requested not to stock up on essential goods unnecessary following the announcement of the curfew.
The Army Commander said the quarantine curfew currently in effect in 68 Police areas across the country will remain and continue until further notice.
Grocery stores and pharmacies will be allowed to operate on selected days as announced before in curfew imposed areas from tomorrow (29).
The system will continue in curfew imposed areas, despite the quarantine curfew being lifted for the Western Province on Monday (02).
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva further said that the curfew may be lifted in some Police areas in the future after monitoring the number of coronavirus patients being detected in the coming days. (Colombo Gazette)
