Former Prime Minister D M Jayaratne passed away in Kandy today. He had passed away at a private hospital, according to family sources. The former Prime Minister was 88 at the time of his passing.

Non-Cabinet Minister Harsha de Silva resigned from his Ministerial post today. Harsha de Silva said that he had resigned so President Gotabaya Rajapaksa could appoint a person suitable to the post. In his letter of resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Harsha de Silva said that he gave his best to all portfolios he held and is satisfied that he was able to contribute towards the development of the country.
