Tense situation reported in Atalugama

A tense situation was reported in Atalugama, Bandaragama today.

A tense situation had erupted between area residents and the Police.

A Police team had arrived in the area to raid a cannabis cultivation and had arrested one suspect.

The villagers had protested, causing a tense situation, preventing the man from being taken into custody by the Police team.

Four women and four men who were inside the house operating the cannabis cultivation had behaved in an unruly manner, obstructing the Police officers from carrying out their duties and had also assaulted the officers.

Four persons, including three women, were later arrested on charges of assaulting the Police officers.

A Senior Police Inspector, a female Police Constable and another female Police officer were injured in the clash. (Colombo Gazette).
