Strong winds expected later today

The Department of Meteorology has warned that strong winds may be experienced in most parts of the country today. It said that the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) (Northern and Southern hemispheric winds convergence Zone) is currently over Sri Lanka. Underage girls abused, videoed

Two underage girls have been sexually abused and videoed in Piliyandala, the police media unit said today. According to the police the girls aged 9 and 10 had been sexually abused near the Bolgoda lake last morning. Following a police complaint over the incident the police arrested a suspect and will produce him in court today. Another bus fare hike in July

Private bus operators are to go for another bus fare hike from July this year, the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) said. LPBOA President Gemunu Wijeyratne told reporters today that they will push for the bus fare price hike owing to the increase in electricity rates and other overhead costs.
